1. 임택준 작가 소개와 작품세계

As artist Im Taek-Jun, having shown his unique feature as a total artist through all genres arts including plain. Solid and performances, is also showing a different tape of Works at this exhibition. His ever-changing formative desire shown in his past works has been based on human’s spontaneous one depending on men’s body and beast-like symptom of the end of a century. Especially his plain = focused works have mainly come from the extension of the abstract expression‎ism expressing impromptu gestures by using all kinds of method such as finger-printings and dripping skills in a grand screen space.

In fact in the series of “songs of body” in 1998, we could see the result of so-called series excessive leakage from his over-strong expression‎ of body which is summarized as performances in a plain aspect. He, however, has recently been expressing the painting backgrounds of more temperate and self-restraint mood coming from more symmetrical views of things.

These dietary expression‎ shown on his recent works may be the result of embodiment of his own expression‎al skills which began with the downsizing of canvas size. All living things, especially human, birds, fish and trees engraved in very simple forms on his canvases, are showing significant symbolic meaning Those things, which can be considered as revelation of pre-cultural nature state or human’s instinct of recurrent toward his childhood, have been mingled with various color-tone changed and drawings, giving the everlasting mystery and natural beauty to his canvases.

Especially the artist’s attachment for his imaginary plant called ‘cloud tree” can be used as a keyword to understand his recent works, and also considered as an ignition device for his expression‎ of his works. And there is something that has to be paid attention to besides screen structure, color tone, or forms. Quick drawings using screwdrivers, stones or sticks, which he tries through repeated acts of mixing, putting, and mingling trick, methyl, dries, soil powder or stone powder, only can be in a state of self-oblivion. As a result, each drawing can catch is own color, and show among those various color tones which cause drawing and colors to escape from simple coexistence and join the other forms to keep the balance of entier canvas.

The picture produced by harmonizing canvas, drawings and many simplified forms, has become a small universe creating the concept of non-existence with formative features, Although, his canvas is sometimes empty like oriental paintings, it would rather be said to open, not empty, and can be understood as a remaining space for certain forms. These forms and spaced expressed on the canvas form the artist’s inside are giving him a formative process to deliver the greatest meaning by temperate way, and to embody the vibration effect of his spirit. Although he is floating on the canvas with much lighter soul than before, and has a compact view to be able to see the depth of existence, he is still wondering cloud refusing to stay in a certain place.

His wondering position might be somewhere in a borderland between material and spiritual zone, painting’s idealism and embodiment, and perception and imperception of existence; He has childlike attachment never to refuse to accept his curiosity of existence and sense of emptiness caused by securities and choose from the borderline. His hesitation reminds us of the concept of Godot proposed by Samuel Beget. Like Beget, who dramatized the emptiness of the core and reminded us of it existence by way of waiting for Godot(truth) even though he knew enough it was impossible., the artist,

Im Taec-Jun is trying to converse about existence of resentment. The artist’s intention is firmly expressed in his canvas as distinguished forms of unknown human bodies or birds which are waving their wings for escape flight. Those features can be independent egos who still even in a chaotic place and look for the reason to live. I would say he has a common sense with the viewers of his works in that he never loosens his reins for fight while he is a empting and controlling himself by cutting chairs of his physical desire and existence tied to the outer would as the super human of Nietzsche or Sisyphus of Camus did.
